Card Game | “Friends”

Overview: A card game based on the six characters from the TV show Friends. Much like most other games we chose a theme and back story for our card game for entertainment purpose as well as future marketing and advertising.

Goal: To be the player at the end of the game with the most cards/ points

Turn / Play Structure: One deck of cards, one spinning wheel with six categories (one for each of the six characters from “Friends”), one dealer, three or four players.

• Once the dealer deals one entire deck of cards the dealer then spins the wheel with the six Friend’s characters on it.
• Depending on the character the spinning wheel stops on, each player then proceeds to pair their cards in a predetermined manner based on the TV show character’s personality trait.
• When all the cards are paired off then game ends and each player counts their pairs, the player with the most pairings wins the game.

Rules:  Each of the six “Friends” characters has a distinctive personalty trait which in turn dictates how the cards will be paired off.

1. Monica – is the obsessive compulsive one, so if the spinner lands on her face then every player must evaluate their cards and put aside all the cards within the same suit but also in number order without skipping a number. (Example- if you have 4,5,6,7, 9 of diamonds then you would count the 4,5,6 & 7 for four points because they are the same suit and they happen to be in a order without skipping a number. You can also put down cards with the same numbers like 2 of diamonds, 2 of club and 2 of hearts)
2. Ross – is the studious one, so if the spinner lands on his face then you add up all your cards according to their umber value (A =1, J=11, Q=12 and K=13 points. So whether you have more cards or just a handful of face cards, either way you have a great chance of racking up many points on this turn.
3. Chandler – is the unstable and goofy one, so if the spinner lands on his face then starting from the player sitting to the right of the dealer, all the players turn their cards face down and hold their stack and one at a time they flip a card over and throw it down, once  two cards of the same number land on top of each other, the first person to throw their hand on top of the cards gets the entire stack of cards and the dealer proceeds to spin the wheel for the next round. The benefit of this round is being able to shuffle around the cards a bit as well as giving players the opportunity to land their hands on as many cards as they can.
4. Rachel – is spoiled and gets what she wants, so if the spinner lands on her face then you as the player get to ask the person on your left for one card by asking the question “Do you have _____ card ? (if the player on your left does have the card then they have to give it to you and you put that card along with a similar card in your hand down as a pair) The goal is to ask for a card that you can then pair off with one, two or three of the cards you have of the same number. You can also look through all the cards in your hand and much like Monica’s rules you can put aside as many similar cards you have in your hand. The paired off cards will count towards the total points at the end of the game and obviously this also makes the total stack of cards smaller so there’s a chance the game might end as soon as there are no more cards left to pair off.
5. Joey – is the ___ one, if the spinner lands on his face then all the players have to throw down their cards in the center and the dealer counts down from 3 -2-1, one each player get the opportunity to grab as many cards as they can. This is another opportunity for the players to get more cards in order to have more chances to pair off their cards or hope that the game ends so they have the most cards which add up to the most points.
6. Phoebe – If the spinner lands on her face then the game automatically ends and all the players add up their paired off cards as well as the cards in their hands.

End  of game: Payer with the most points wins. Its basically any one’s game and hopefully you still walk away with friends.
